Great Circle
An aerial view of the Great Circle.
The circle is actually an ellipse that is 1163 by 1189 feet.
The entrance to the Great Circle.  Notice how the moat is on the interior.
A view of the entrance from Eagle MoundAt the center of the Great Circle lies a group of conjoined mounds about five feet high known as Eagle Mound.  Excavation at the Eagle Mound in 1928 by Emerson Greenman concluded that the Hopewell had constructed a rectangular structure measuring 100' x 23'.  He also discovered a large rectangular clay basin similar to crematory basins found at other Hopewell sites.  This would be consistent with Hopewell Charnel houses, except that he found no cremated remains.  The mounds were created after the structure was destroyed, a common Hopewell practice.
My friends talk tough,
but when it comes to visiting Native American Monuments in the snow...

they reveal themselves to be the little fairy children that they are.
