Of course, living in Holland we have to start with a Windmill. This photo was taken January 1999 while driving along a dike near the river Waal. Yes, it is quite gray and rainy in Holland in the winter!

The view from our house one snowy February morning. We have a large house by Dutch standards and a front yard like this is unusually expansive. Of course the snow didn't stick so all we had was the mess. I mentioned gray and rainy, well, sometimes it snows.

It isn't always gray. This is a little gate into the older section of our town. It is only about 150 years old but there has been a gate or bridge of some sort here for 500 years. That kind of continuation is just about impossible for me to understand. Especially since I've spent most of my life on the west coast where 1900 was a long time ago.

Of course our town has a canal. It is used mostly for pleasure craft though there are a couple of commercial landings where a few small barges can come to unload at the cities factories.
