About me

My name is Dong-Soo (meaning "long life from east") Dan Simon Hilmersson, and I was born in Suwon in Korea 1966. When I was about two years old, I was adopted to a childless couple in Stockholm. My family consists of my father, mother and a younger sister, who is adopted from Ethiopia. We grew up in a suburb to Stockholm called Vsterhaninge. My sister was 1 year old when she came to us.

During my childhood I was very seldom teased despite my Asian look. After finish my High school studies I did my military service. All men in Sweden have to do the military service. At the age of 18 my parents decided to get divorced, so I moved to my own apartment outside Stockholm. My mother is remarried with a Englishman and I got a step brother.

My girlfriend Katarina is from Poland and she is living in Lund. We met through internet in October 2006 and from December 2006 we became a couple. As you can see I have a very international family.
I like animals very much. When I was younger I used to have a various kinds of animals, like a rabbit, a dog, a turtle and a guinea pig. And as an adult I also had two cats, named Houdini and Morticia, but they are not living with me any longer.
I'm currently working as a security guard for "Securitas" a large global security company.

I have been to Korea five times, twice I was there for over a year to studying the Korean language at Seoul National University respectively Korea University . You can read about my journeys to Korea on this link , and how you do, if you want to study in Korea . I have also been studying the Korean language, political science and criminology at Stockholm University too.

In 1989 I joined AKF (Adpoted Korean Association) and I have been a member since then. When I was in Korea I tried to search for my birth family but I didn't succeed. For a number of years I was a "Korean Wanna Be". While living in Korea I got a lot of new friends and experience about Korea, but I also learned more about Korean adoption policy and the society. This lead me to enlightenment and I started to see Korea with more critical eyes.
