THEMES Color: Sage/Celadon because everyone who knows Don knows that his favorite color is green! Attire: The groom, groomsmen, bearers and selected family members will be wearing the traditional Barong Tagalog. The Barong Tagalog exhibits the loose, long lines of its Chinese sources, the airy tropical appearance of Indo-Malay costume, the elongated effect of Hindu dressing, and the ornamental restraint of European men's clothing. Other: Garden and Pictures!...because everyone who knows me knows that I'm a picture freak! CEREMONY As Filipino-Americans, we wanted to incorporate aspects of our rich cultural heritage in our wedding. Please take a sneak peak of some of these traditions. Weddings in the Philippines frequently include Spanish and American traditions. A candle, veil and cord, symbols brought by Spanish missionaries are incorporated into the ceremony. THE CANDLE, VEIL, & CORD The Candle: The flame from the candles symbolize God's presence within the union. The lighting of unity candle (of Protestant origin) is sometimes integrated as a variation. It is a call for enlightenment and for God's presence in their married life together.
The Veil (Sanctus): The veil (a long white tulle) will be draped and pinned on the groom's shoulder and over the bride's head. This symbolizes the union of two people 'clothed' as one.
The Cord (Jugal): The cord (a silken rope, a string of flowers or links of coins) in the form of a figure eight will be placed around the neck-shoulder area of the couple. This symbolizes the infinite bond of marriage.
With a slight variation from the traditional Filipino way, the candles will be lit by the brides and grooms mothers, while the veil and the cord will be placed on the couple by the primary sponsors.
