Here we are picking up our life jackets and our paddles. Terry is helping Celine see if her paddle is the right height. Now you know the perfect paddle length is when it fits under your armpit! We were really hogging the paddles...there's 6 paddles for the 4 people in the foreground!
This is another shot of us just hanging out before our race. Shona's laughing at a joke Priscillia just told her, Celine is saying "Oooohh, I get it!" and Terry's putting on his happy face for the camera!
To thaw out the people who fell into the freezing cold water, they had 3 hot tubs ready. That's the back of Celine, Ron and I think the guy in the black cap is Alan Chu, who was also racing that day. Only one of us went for a dip. Yep, Terry and Ron dipped Gladys into one hot tub!
This was my view when my team took off and I was left behind! But luckily I swam and caught up to them...Jennnnneeerrrrr, wwwaaaittttttt...The starts were really exciting because the canoes were delicately balanced and with 6 boats so close to each other, collisions threatened to flip us over.
Case in point...here a team overturned their canoe just by trying to get everyone in!
When we got back onto the shore, a runner jumps out of the canoe with the cone and...
...runs to the gong and hits it with the cone, signaling the end of our race.
