| When I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a B.A. in English, I had no clue what direction to take. I worked for many years at jobs that I just fell into; mostly cooking in restaurants and processing health insurance claims. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| With the help of a wonderful book called What Color Is Your Parachute? I realized that I might be happy with a career as a teacher. But I knew I could only work with motivated adult students, not kids. My first step was to get my teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Then I tried for a long time to get a job as a corporate trainer in the insurance industry, but was unsuccessful. I finally decided I had to return to school and get a Master's degree in order to teach in a community college. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I received my M.A. in Linguistics from San Jos State University in 1993 and began teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at various adult schools in the San Jos area and at Evergreen Valley College. I also work with foreign workers in the high tech industry through Arrillaga and Associates. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Teaching English to adult speakers of other languages is gratifying and enjoyable. Nearly all of them are highly motivated and serious about improving their English. They come from cultures that have a high regard for education and immense respect for teachers. I truly enjoy my work. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
