MOBILE CONSOLE ARRIVES AS ORGAN TAKES SHAPE

Friday 19 November, 1999.

The mobile console (pictured opposite in Canada) arrived from Canada early yesterday and was again brought into the cathedral using the same technique as the scissor lift last month. The console is an integral part of the new and exciting way the organs will be run at St Mary's Cathedral. It will sit on the floor of the Cathedral and as its name suggests, will be able to be moved around the cathedral. It will also be capable of playing both the Western and Southern organs. It is designed to be fully compatible with the planned new second organ in the Southern Gallery. The console also has all the latest electronic innovations and will allow for certain things which are not in the console of the Western Organ (anything from octave couplers to transposing). Coming soon are pictures of the console as it sits in the cathedral.
