PARIS FASHION DOLL FESTIVAL 2003

Updated on 15 April 2003

Saturday 29 March : Tyler and Barbie Luncheon Event

After a long wait, we entered the main hall where Theatre de la Mode dolls greeted us at our table as the centrepieces from RTDC whereas Mattel presented the Gold and Glamour Barbie. We had the Reflet d'Argent which was won by Amanda Vu whereas my daughter Liza came back with the Gold and Glamour and Sara won the Ken Lover's set.

Sharon Meyer and her group were at our table. She had earlier arranged for us to sit together. Thanks Sharon.

We found the latest catalogues, a paper bag and a small badge each from RTDC and MADC at our seats. There were also some jewellery/decorative item which I am told is for Cissy. Our table hostess also gave us a bag of goodies containing various assortments of gifts whereas Amanda handed out a cute gift of Barbie "duck" with a packet of sweets. How embarassing for me, I did not even bring any gifts from Malaysia! Oh well, I will remember next time.

Several presentations were given during the luncheon. There was a slide show by Barbara Spadiccini, curator of the Toy Dept of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs of Paris; Louise Felcher gave a slide presentation of her book, "Here comes the Bride Dolls"; Eric Chatillon gave a good presentation on the "Barbie Polytail" followed by Robert who gave a slide presentation of the 2003 range. For most of the part, I couldn't hear the presentations properly as we were sitting right at the end and again the sound system was not working very well.

The best event of the day was the Fashion Show "Our Favourite Doll". Several conventioners participated in the event by sewing their favourite doll outfit and parading their efforts to all. We really had fun and I really appreciate their spunk in participating in the show.

When the time for unveilling of the dolls came, I was pleasantly surprised with Tyler, it was one of the dresses that I liked so it was okay although I would have prefered a TDLM no. 166 (Jacques Fath) or 180 (Nina Ricci) or no. 185 (Marcel Rochas) or … and the list goes on. My only grouse would be the "oven mittens", it's ugly! Apart from that, I'm happy with the doll.

Blush Tyler (LE 250) *** Blonde Gay Parisienne (LE 300) *** Special Gay Parisienne (LE 20)

The blonde Gay Parisienne Barbie didn't come as a surprise at all although I wish that Mattel had included something else to justify the registration cost. However, I love the gift that was given to the helpers, it is really unique. I wonder how much is the doll on eBay? Hmmmm …..
