Diana Chalk

Diana has been designing dolls now for about four years. She is totally captivated by the artwork and expression than can be achieved with cloth dolls and gets the greatest kick out of seeing others get as much pleasure out of dollmaking. Better than any drug known. In 1997 she bought Lynne Butcher's pattern for "Pip" and taught herself needle sculpting, face painting, posing the doll and about different fabrics. Four easy pattern pieces, six small body parts, so simple to make, but every one different and so many different poses.

By early February 1998 she had her first original doll made - Priscilla, the camel for the "Queen of the Desert Challenge" at 3D Doll Club. A pattern quickly followed. A firm believer that you learn as much from other students as from the teacher, she has attended numerous classes with other teachers and designers. She now has six commercial patterns available and has completed many commissions. Diana loves creating dolls which reflect our wildlife and way of life here in Queensland.

Venom in Denim
One Day Class

A voluptuous viper, a sexy serpent, slinky snake or liquid lizard, this 65cm lady is looking for a "good time" on the streets of Surfers. She could be called "the Cavill Avenue Cobra". She has a slender figure well shaped breasts and nicely rounded backside. The body is a 2 piece body joined under the breasts. The body is made then dressed so you can if you want open her shirt and slip her skirt up. She can be dressed in whatever clothes you like because she is fully made then dressed. Her eyes are plastic doll eyes set into the cloth head then her face is overlaid with stocking to make eyelids and so that her cheeks and brows can be filled out after needle sculpting. Dimensional paint gives her red liposuction lips and long red claws.

Working from nature, students will learn to create in cloth a stylised replica of a large coastal banksia cone after it has released its seeds from their cases, and then to give that cone character, so that it becomes a doll.
