I have always loved dolls and as a child played with them constantly. As an adult with two well grown children the passion has not abated. In the ten years or so that I have been designing my own dolls I have never grown tired of the activity as I am always looking for a new design challenge or looking at how I can incorporate a new medium into my 3-D creations. Experimentation and problem solving are the key factors in my approach to doll making. Cloth lends itself well to such an approach because the artist is not limited in any way other than by imagination. My approach to teaching is to encourage the individual to solve ideas in their own way whilst providing technical expertise to realize their visions. Anyone who does a Fiona McDonald workshop will go home with their own creation.

The dragon is a freestanding, wire armatured, soft sculpture, approx. 45cm high. Pattern is supplied and all sewing is done in class. This workshop is suitable for intermediate to experienced doll makers, it includes two gussets. There is a choice of two different dragon patterns. The rider is an acrylic painted, needle sculpted, wire armature figure, approx. 30cm tall. Paint supplied for a cost of $5.00 per person

Gwendolyne is a needle-sculpted, oil-painted figure with some wire armature. I would like to offer her as either: a needle sculpture workshop or an oil painting workshop. As a sculpting workshop all sewing will be done in class to the supplied pattern. For a painting workshop all sewing and assembling must be done at home to the supplied pattern. All paint will be supplied in class for a cost of $10.00 per person.
