The Waters in the dream were thought at first to been brought into the dream mearly for ambiance, and decoration. Upon later examinations of the Ruined Basin Hall in the Umbric Plains, it has become apparent that the waters of the dream have a purpose. It is a filtration system of sorts, placed there by the Ancients long ago, to continually collect excess Chaos and diffuse it harmlessly back into the Unawakened.
Valador, found thru study that he could remove the Chaos by paralyzing for a short time. Being paralyzed, the Chaos would bind to the water, and the clean air would be vented back into the Dream at the Vents of Valador. Then the raw Chaos churning after it's short spell of paralysis, would flow down into the river of Feyward. Then underground to be separated.
The waters then separated from the Chaos were channeled to The Ruined Basin, and from there back into the system through the North Sewer to start their journey yet again. Now this all being well and good, after the nightmare Wars, sections of the system were destroyed. The worse damage being done on the Mount of Dreamers of Light. where to this day no water can be found except that brought in manually, or piped from a hidden spring they guard relentlessly.
