Recharge & Destroy Talisman: A Comparative Study
By: Purple Lace
The Arts of Destroy Talisman and Recharge share a common thread in the annals of history. To compare these two arts is to delve into the pre-great loss time of long ago., and the experiments and research of both the Entrophy Coalition and the Overscanners. Destroy Talisman seems to be the result of the meddling of the Entrophy Coalition into the workings and uses of the Arts. They did experiments with most of the Arts, learning of a way to destroy an elemen, alteror, chakram , etc. This art has the ability to remove the charges from a talisman with the aid of a dreamer's dreamsoul.
As it is usually easier to destroy than create, it probably didn't take much experimenting to develop this art into its current form. Recharge, on the other hand, was an art created in a time of desperation by a Master Elder Dreamwright and Dreamsmith, Ibioc, who later established the Overscanners. This group fought against the Entrophy Coalition, attempting to strengthen the walls and counter the damage that had been done. Recharge is a prime example of the Overscanner's efforts.
Ibioc experimented with the art of Destroy Talisman, being ( I would assume) a dreamseer, he funneled his insight into the Talisman in question, instead of using chaos and the Soul of the Creator that Destroy Talisman did. Using the principle of pulling charges -out- of a talisman with Dreamsoul, Ibioc forced insight into a talisman adding to it's quantity of charges.
These experiments must have met with great opposition, as Ibioc's first attempts must have destroyed countless precious talismans, in a time when items were few and hard to come by. This probably led to the support of the Entrophy Coalition and distaste to Ibioc and his group of "repairers". As Destroy Talisman has the restriction of not being able to destroy an infinitely charged talisman. Ibioc soon learned that the talismans he rejuvenated had a limit to the amount of charges as well. I can only surmise that Ibioc's notes were safely contained in infinitely charged Talismans to prevent the Entrophy Coalition from destroying them. As a student of history, and History Officer of the StarScanners, I look at these two arts and see much more that two Dreamsmiths hard at work.  I envision the origins of these two arts as more of a battle between two groups. One was determined to undermine all that was, while the other was striving to improve the quality of the Dream. So to limit the comparison of these two arts to themselves, in my mind, is in itself a shortcoming. For it is proof positive of the enraging battle waged long ago between two very influential groups, and an example of what can happen between two opposing points of view.
