Mentors of the Light
Mentors of the Light was formed before the houses closed, and was founded by Sweething. The True mentoring process has recently been reestablished and is now headed up by OfF KiLTeR.
This page is a detailed account of  -how- to mentor and will hopefully be a helpful guideline to those of you who have questions. For more information and a more defined listing of requirements to become a mentor See OfF KiLTeR.
What is a Mentor?

Mentors of the Light are those who work for the House in assisting those who wish to join us and making sure the potential members are worthy to bear the crest of the Light.
Steps to Follow:           (Every Mentor should know this)

1.) Take some time to learn about the dreamer seeking to join. Learn what motivates them, why they have chosen to follow the path of Light, and any goals they might have. Quiz them on what they might do in certain situations, this can often tell you more than you might think.

2.) Now that you have heard some of their goals and aspirations, and you are somewhat confident they have potential to join the Light, go over with them what is to be expected during the mentoring process. At this point you may give them a Pre-quest. Make sure the dreamer knows that the Pre-quest is not the beginning of their mentoring, and completion does not guarantee mentorship will begin.
What is a Pre-Quest?

A Pre-quest is not to be confused with a Pre-week mentoring codex. A Pre-quest helps prove sincerity of the potential member, and helps them to see if the Light is right for them as well.

***Example of a Pre-Quest***
Learn the differences between Illuminate and Freesoul. Leanr all house beliefs and why they believe the way they do. Spend some time (at least 5 hours) around the house getting to know our members. Help in guarding the house or Thresh greeting. Bring two supports of Guardians or Rulers who have witnessed you fulfilling these actions.
3.) While the potential member is working on their Pre-quest, keep a close eye on them. You can learn alot from their actions. Ask them what they have learned about , explain a bit more in detail what is to come, and what will be required of them if they become a member. Check to see if they are still wanting to be mentored to join. If they are, now you are ready to give them a Pre-week task.
What is a Pre-week task?

A Pre-week is the beginning of a potential member's joining. Several things must be included in a pre-week. The date when the pre-week was started, the dreamers name, what is expected of them, some trivia of your choice ( this can be anything but try to focus it on DoL) and the date they may return for initiation. Requirements are at least 7 days, but if you feel more is needed that is fine.

***Example of a Pre-week***

2/12, today starts the pre-week for (Dreamer's name) He is to know and understand all the house beliefs in detail. Find out the favorite color of 10 members and why it is their favorite. Gather 100 essences in reciept form, and be tested by 3 other mentors. If passed all the requirements, ( Dreamer) can be initiated on 2/19.
4.) During this week, or however long you deem, spend as much time as you can with this dreamer, teaching them the following:

A.) What is expected of an Initiate.
B.)  Rules and Regulations of the House.
C.) Introduce them to all members you see from the House.  ( helps break the ice)
D.) Go over that we seek honor and respect and do not tolerate the opposite.
E.) Go over DM attacks with them, what we do, and what we expect.
                         F. ) Make sure they understand the Oath, "Do you swear to always serve and protect this house and its members without any reguard to personal consequence?"  This means they are expected to place house beliefs above and before their own personal goals, and are they willing to do so?

5.) After they have completed the week set forth and their task is almost over, If you feel they are ready and know the beliefs etc. -YOU- must take them to 3 other mentors (minimum) the last must be a Guardian or Ruler.

**Note: If you are a Guardian/Ruler your vote may count for that, but three other mentors will still be needed.
**Note: It is important that -YOU- bring them to the other mentors, That way if the testing mentor has a problem they can speak with you right there, and the problem can be resolved or justified.

***Special Notes:

* If you feel that the dreamer doesn't belong with DoL for any reason, ( not true to beliefs, acts like an ass, anything you dont feel comfortable about) Explain to them in a calm manner what they need to work harder on. (patience, calming down, whatever) Their reaction to this will also help you determine if they truly care or not. If the Problem persists seek out Magenta or myself and inform us of the situation, and how you feel so word can be passed on to other Mentors.

* There will be times you will be asked to test a potential member. This is rather simple but could be difficult if you have never seen or met the dreamer before. During your testing, learn about them, asks TONS of questions, and remember it is YOUR responsibility to support them ONLY if you are ready to place your name on the line for them. Don't ever support anyone you are not 100% sure of.

Thanks and Happy Mentoring!
