Doctor Druid's Books and Other Writings
Download Instructions
These books are available in several formats:
Microsoft Word 6.0 format, as a single doc file. This is in zipped format to save
space and download time.
HTML format is stored as a single file, and should be readable by any current web browser
on any platform. You can read the file either directly from the internet, or download it to
your system and open it as a local file. Some of these files are quite large, over 1MB.
Microsoft Reader (.lit) format is the most attractive way to read these books. Reader is currently available only for Windows PCs. You will need the free
Microsoft Reader program, available here. Note that you should NOT need to "register" or "activate" your
copy of Reader to read these books as they are not encrypted. Simply download the file to "My Documents/My Library", and start the Reader program. You should see the book in the list of available selections.
Note: For reasons unknown to me, Geocities will not let me upload the .lit files directly. So,
they have been uploaded as .zip files. Simply download the file, right click on it and select "Extract All",
and get the .lit file out of the resulting folder. Where there's a will, there is a way.
Spontaneous Human Consciousness
This is a philosophical discussion of the nature and origins of human consciousness: what it
is, how it came into being, and where it is going. The book explains how modern urban civilization imperils the existence of human consciousness, and what can be done to restore the individual consciousness that arose in ancient times. The relationship of consciousness to naturally occurring psychoactive substances and to ancient religious systems and their modern revivals is also discussed.

Meadow Mist
Suppose, for the moment, that on the eve of Caesar's invasion of Gaul around 50 BCE, powerful wizards, using knowledge only now being rediscovered by theoretical physics, cast a powerful spell that split the earth into two separate realities: one in which the Druids and their knowledge of magick and science continued and developed, and another in which war and greed ruled the day (the one in which we live). Suppose, further, that the circle of the spell is about to close; that the world conquered by the Romans is now about to come face to face with the world in which science and magick developed as a unified discipline, and the wizards who cast
the spell are determined not to lose the battle. Can human civilization survive, and if so, how? Using the ideas developed in Spontaneous Human Consciousness, the novel Meadow Mist explores the relationship between human consciousness and civilization, and where the confrontation between "I" and "we" ultimately leads.

Event Horizons of the Psyche
This is my doctoral dissertation, and contains the original research work that went into the writing
of "Spontaneous Human Consciousness," plus the more formal philosophical arguments, footnotes, etc., that
one would expect in such a document. Most of what it says has been incorporated into "Spontaneous" (along
with a much better job of editing), but for those interested, here it is.
