Let's go for a run !

I was never much of a runner until I turned 23.  At the time I was looking to increase my cardiovascular exercise, and my professor, Roger Cooke, invited me to run the "Bay to Breakers", a famous 12 K in San Francisco.  I had lots of fun participating in the race and never stopped running.  Now I run at least 3 times a week and recently completed my first half-marathon.

La Jolla Half Marathon

Brian and I made a resolution to train for a half marathon in January 2003.  We began intense training at that time and ran smaller races as we built up for the big run. We attained our goal on April 27, 2003 by completing the La Jolla Half Marathon.

Total miles run from January to April: 250 miles

Kathleen, Brian and I at the San Dieguito 5K.  The run was tough, but we all ran personal bests after training intensely for 5 weeks and blasting off on the 1st mile at a 7 minute mile pace (2003)

Brian, Kathleen and I after the Turf to Surf 5K.  This was our first race together.  Can you tell that we all signed up at the same time? (2002)

Perkin, Brian, Vini & I run our first race together at the St. Patrick's Day 10 K.  Many lessons were learned on this day, including "Drinking Coke before a race can cause abdominal cramps," and "Having your bowel movement prior to the competition will improve your racing comfort and time." (2003)

Kathleen and I at the Surf to Turf .  Kathleen is my very fit and athletic friend who has been a wonderful running mate and tennis partner these past few years.  She finished 27 out of 75 for the women's 21-25 age group, quite a feat given this was her first race (2002).

Brian and I after the San Dieguito Half-Marathon.  The race was a spur-of-the moment idea, and we only had 4 weeks to train from 2 miles up to 13.5.  But sometimes you just go out and do it, and we did it!  (2002)

John and I after the Turf to Surf 5K.  John is my roomate and is an excellent basketball player as well.  Whatever sport he plays, he gives it his all and does extremely well (2000)
