The movie will be released by Mindfird Millenium Entertainment, who has aquired both film and television rights (in development for 2004)  for the series from the Japanese game publisher, Tecmo. DOA: TM has been given a $30 million budget: low by industry standards for an action movie.

"I believe that the future of digital entertainment is a marriage of interactive and passive entertainment, and the 'Dead or Alive' movie deal with Mindfire Entertainment is a great example of this," said Tecmo marketing director John Inada, who orchestrated the movie deal. (sneakpeek2.tripod.com)

While sources at Mindfire promise an "A-list" cast, no one has been signed to star in it. Nor has a director or a screenwriter, though there is rumor that there will be two scripts in the works and that they will choose the better for the movie and turn the second into a television series pilot or a sequel.

"Even though it's a fighting game, there's a complex story behind it all," said Mark Altman, Mindfire's chief operating officer. "We plan to do a studio picture with... cutting edge Hong Kong-type fight choreography for the film, which respects the high standard and quality of the game and its martial arts action. With the vast array of locales featured in the game, I expect we'll do some globe trotting for locations."

One thing that is certain about the movie is that not all DOA characters will play major roles. With so many complex characers, each with equally complex background stories, it would be difficult if not plain stupid to try and fit everything into one movie. The movie will instead focus on four or five of the most popular characters, with other charactesr providing supporting cast roles. Jann Lee, so far, is the only one to be mentioned as having a definate spot on the silver screen.

And of course, following in DOA's game-play footsteps, there will be female fighters with over-sized, jubbling breasts.
