About the Director

Mr. Melegos begun his teaching career in 1999 at G.L. Roberts C.V.I., with the Durham District School Board. Since 2002 he has been heading the deparment of science at G.L. Roberts C.V.I. Currently, Mr. Melegos is heading the department of science at Dunbarton High School. This year Mr. Melegos is teaching grade 9 science, grade 10 science, grade 11 biology, grade 12 biology, and grade 12 chemistry, all at the academic level. His career objective is to develop, maintain, and promote positive attitudes towards science, and life by fostering effective working and learning environments, and contributing to the development of others. His educational dogma is one that incorporates effective and innovative practical teaching methodologies that would complement scientific theory, and provide enriched learning opportunities through the process of guided inquiry, and authentic education. His personal research interests include curriculum development and program implementation strategies in high school biotechnology, numeracy/statistics, scientific literacy, and space science. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Melegos had the opportunity to conduct clinical research with some University of Toronto teaching hospitals, such as The Toronto Western Hospital, the Mount Sinai Hospital, and The Hospital for Sick Children, as a research associate. During the 1994-1998 period Mr. Melegos was affiliated with the Advanced Center for Detection of Cancer (ACDC) in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, at Mount Sinai Hospital. In 1999 he conducted research in neurobiology with the deparment of Integrative Biology Research at Sick Kids Hospital. His research contribution is primarily focused in the fields of prostate, and breast cancer monitoring, diagnosis, and early detection. He also performed clinical studies with various protein markers in prenatal screening, renal function, and neuropathology. To view his list of scientific publications please click here.
