William, served in the US Army during WWI, Company K 87th Inf., 19th Division. He lived on his farm in Butler Co. for over 70 years. He retired from farming in 1962. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, and a member of a WW I Veterans organization and the American Legion. He moved in to the Allison Care Center on May 7, 1990.

At the time of his death, William had 9 great-grandchildren and one had died before him. He also had 1 great-great grandson. Twin infant grandsons also died before him.
