When his parents converted to Judaism, Emanuel converted too, and changed his name to Benjamin Leon. Emanuel moved with his parents from Bohemia to the US and then to Jerusalem where he was married.

When he was married, Benjamin was 16 and his wife was only 13. They had to get the approval of their parents, of course. One of the witnesses at their marriage was the US consul to the Ottoman Empire in Jerusalem.

Benjamin and Tzivya (also known as Sarah) eventually settled in the USA.
