The Leer house was damaged during WW II and Ferdinand and Elizabeth came to America while their son Karl repaired the home in 1947--1947. They were helped in America by their grandson Bernard Browne.
Also according to John Browne, their house in Leer (which is still owned by their son Karl in 1997) was built about 1690. John wrote that when Ferdinand died, ``the whole town closed the morning of his funeral and did not re-open until he was interred. Needless to say he was highly respected.''
Ferdinand's children Helen, Bernhard, Mary and Carola all came to the US and married here.
