The format of the practical exam held in October 2004:

Day 1:

Morning session starting 9am

Complete dentures

• Case taking and diagnosis –30mins.
• Preliminary impression-45mins
• Final impression including border molding-1hr (custom trays with master cast provided).

At the end of the session candidates subjected to a viva session related to the work done including case discussion. There was no separate chair side evaluation.

 

Afternoon session 3pm

Removable partial denture survey and design followed by related viva. Work authorization order was not mandatory but candidates were asked to draw the design and write about the components.

 

Day 2:

Morning session starting 9am:

• Fixed partial denture case taking and tooth preparation 1hr
• Gingival retraction and impression making.
• Case discussion and viva related to FPD.

No die preparation and no master cast pour.

Afternoon session

• Provisional fabrication
• Face bow record and transfer to articulator.
• Provisional cementation
• Grand viva and thesis related discussion.

The exam was over by 5 pm.
