The history of genetics can be traced back to the 19th century. Gregor Mendel discovered heredity. He used pea plants to do those experiments.  By doing these experiments he took the first step in finding DNA. Mendel cross bred his pea plants to make different forms. But Mendel did not know about DNA or genetics. He did not know about genetics because he discovered genetics, the laws of inheritance and the laws of heredity.  When Mendel took his findings to the Natural Scientific Society he was ignored.  In 1900 Mendel's work was rediscovered by Hugo de Vries.  He was the first step in finding our code.
