Mrzen/Oktoberfestbier
Mrzen is simply the german word for March and it is was originally in this month that Mrzen Bier was brewed.  In 1539 the Bavarian brewing regulations stated that the brewing process could only take place from Michaelis (30th September) til the feast of St. George (23rd April).  This was due to the high number of fires that would break out durring the cooking of the malt in the dry summers.  Also, since artifical cooling was not available in the 1500's this beer had to be brewed in temperatures of around ten degrees celcius, therefore this beer was typically brewed in mass quantities in March.

This amber lager beer is not considered a Stark Bier but it does have a higher alcohol content wich can reach up to 5.5 percent.  Today this beer can be brewed anytime because of refrigeration, but traditionally in Munich this beer is brewed specifically for the Oktoberfest and is one of my personal favorites.  You could call it a good mix between a helles and a bock beer because it is light in texture but with an excellent flavor.
