| Some people eat to live. I'm the exact opposite, I live to eat!! Obviously if you want to eat good you should know how to cook, unless you want to live with your mother the rest of your life. And by the way, in this day and age you cant expect your girlfriend and/ or future wife to know what she's doing in the kitchen! But with the right ammount of encouragement and if they're willing the girls are a nice companion to have in the kitchen. Someone has to stir the gravy ; ) In this section of the web page I'll post some of my favorite recipies and give a few tips I've learned along the way. I'm by far no expert but after a little exerience you get things figured out pretty quickly. Moving to Germany really opened up a whole new world of food and now I've got a few new dishes in my repertoire! Being from Missouri, I grew up with BBQ and for me its common place to actually go to a BBQ resturaunt. If your not from the south (or at least boardering it) you might find it hard to even imgaine that a BBQ resturaunt even exists. Thats quite unfortunate. I view my grill as an extension of my kitchen and use it almost as often as my oven, even in Germany. I know every one has different tasts and personalities, but I think if you follow my little BBQ and cooking guide your sure to have a good dinner, if not a good time! |

| Dans four simple rules for a successful BBQ | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1) A hot fire! Its soooo obvious but I've seen way too many people trying to use a grill that had a pathetic flame and its really a sad site to see, plus its a huge waste of time and an embarrassment waiting to catch with 10 hungry people sitting around. Really people, save your dignity and dont use that paper plate to fan the coals. Start it right to begin with!!! 2) Good meat! Being a student most all of my life I've had to be careful of prices and I've notice that you get what you pay fore when it comes to cheap meat. Also, if you think you can save time and work by buying the premarinated stuff your also wasting your effort. If your going to go go all the way! Making your own marinade can turn a cheaper cut of meat into something surprising. The prepackaged marinated grill variety pack is crap (my opinion). 3) Ice cold beer! I dont know how to explain it, but the BBQ just doesnt taste as good I didn't drink a beer while grilling. It just goes together. 4) Good Music! It not necessary, of course, but it does enhance the atmosphere. Being that BBQ is a southern tradition, and some of the best BBQ I've had came from the southern midwest, I always will recommend blues music to any BBQ. It's just as much a part of grilling as beer. **you'll notice that I didn't put good friends and company as a rule. It is true that a BBQ is the perfect excuse to bring friends together, but you dont want to experiment on your friends. How would you like it if you went to a buddy's house and he served you a charred meatball looking thing that was supposed to be a hamburger? Get over the stigma that its stupid to grill alone, thats where you can be the most creative. And if you do make a mistake, know one will know about it and better yet, no one will have to eat it either! |
