This is Marc's trunk before we started. You can see that the carpet has been pulled back and the piece of cardboard that went across the spare tire well has been taken out. The first thing we did was removed the carpet completely and vaccumed his trunk out. Then we cut that metal bracket out so that we would have enough room for his amp.

I guess you could call this the amp rack. It's not really a rack but it will hold the amp. We took that carpet from the trunk and traced it onto a piece of 1/4" plywood and cut it out a little smaller so that it would fit flat on the trunk floor. Then we made a box with a rounded top to fit in the spare tire well. So we whipped the box in the tire well and laid the plywood over it so we could mark where the opening would be. Then we used a jigsaw to cut out the opening and we then put it into the trunk to make sure it fit and the box lined up with the opening that we just cut. Since it fit we glued it and screwed it. Notice that there is a 3/8" deep groove 1" around the cut out. Now it is time for the covering.

Remember the trunks floor carpet? We just glued it onto the amp rack. To make a nice seem between the maroon and grey carpet we stuffed the edge of the carpets into that groove. The maroon carpet was wrapped inside and under the over hang. Inside the box is maroon vinyl. At the top of the box you can see a small speaker box port that we cut short so that we would have a place to run the wires in. We also lined the underside of the whole box with 1/4" foam to stop any rattles between the wood and metal.

Next up is was the box for the woofers, midranges, and tweeters. That's made out of 3/4" particle board. It's a sealed box and what might look like port holes on the side of the box are really for the speaker terminals. We decided to put them on the side so that they would be out of sight. You may think that it is a dumb shaped box but it is perfect for the Shadow and it took a long time to design. The baffle's angle is the same as the back of the back seat of his car. The box had to be real thin so that the amp rack was visible and accessible. In that picture, the box is at the at the angle it will be in his car. We also wanted that back side perpendicular with the ground. At the end of this section will be a few pictures of the final product and you will then understand the boxes shape.

Here is the box after covering it with carpet that matches his trunk. All the seems are on the sides and on the very bottom, so you don't see them at all. The speakers are Optimus home stereo speakers. They were on clearance for 60% off. So my man Marc and I gave them a listen, and they sounded good so he picked them up. The boxes they came with had a 3 way crossover that we used too. He had already bought these speakers before we started building the box, obviously.

This is the view when the back seat is down and you're in the front seat. You can see that in the back deck we put in some ports just cause we thought it would look cool. Marc had some Boston Acoustic 4 inchers on the top of the shock towers that are powered off his head unit. If they weren't there and people were sitting in the back the highs would be lame for them. Cruisin' around with just us in the front is the best. These bad boys are real loud and clear.
