Aghazstamn's Treasure
Overview
On a cloudy day of autumn, in the month of Uktar (October) in 1357 DR, the Ashaba Heroes are resting in Mane's Manor when a young man in his early twenties named Lortus Silversword makes a visit. He comes from the town of Tilverton, located on the northern border of the kingdom of Cormyr. His brother, a merchant, discovered a treasure map near the Spiderhaunt Woods, to the southwest of Shadowdale. The markings on the map are incomplete but they seem to make reference to something called 'Aghazstamn's Lair'. Lortus talked to certain people and according to them, Aghazstamn was a dracolich (a skeletal dragon) that was slain by a group of adventurers recently. An area on the map is also marked with the word 'beljuril', a kind of gem that is very rare in this region.
Even after being in Shadowdale for only a few days, Lortus had already heard about the recent exploits of the Ashaba Heroes. He tells the adventurers that he's soon to be married and that his fiance asked him to get her a ring with a beljruril gem as wedding gift. Lortus, being slightly cowardly and not really of the adventurous kind, came to Shadowdale to find adventurers that would go and get a beljuril gem for him. He decided to ask the Ashaba Heroes for their services. The Heroes accept and Lortus gives them the map and promises them a reward of 3,000 gold pieces, triple the amount the Heroes would get from a single beljuril gem.
Thanks to the map offered by Lortus, the Ashaba Heroes discover the entry to Aghazstamn's Lair without too much difficulties. The adventurers meet up with a contingent of soldiers from Cormyr in the first few caves of the lair. The soldiers inform the Heroes that there aren't any beljuril gems left because they have all been seized and brought back to Cormyr. They do offer some glimmer of hope to the adventurers by telling them that there might be some left in the farther reaches of the caves, where dangerous monsters still roam...
While exploring deeper into the caves, the Heroes discover an abandonned Cult of the Dragon complex filled with many undead creatures. The Cult of the Dragon is a secret and mysterious Cult dedicated to worshipping dragons and creating dracoliches. Eventually, the adventurers discover the slain dracolich's lair and find an enormous treasure mound guarded by a demonic guardian. After having slain the guardian, the Heroes search the treasure and finally discover a beljuril gem. They return to Shadowdale to give the gem to Lortus, who gives them the reward and his eternal gratitude before going back to Tilverton for his wedding.
