FAQ
& ANSWERS
|
| Q:
How many tracks can NFS3 have?
|
|
Answer:
NFS3 only allows you to have
9 tracks. They are shown as tr000- tr008. If you want to add
a custom track you must replace an existing track. |
|
|
| Q:
Can I keep my original tracks?
|
|
Answer:
Yes..What I do is, go to your
NFS folder, then go to Gamedata/tracks, then make 2 new folders.
Name one "Originals" and one "Customs".
Then make a copy of all your original tracks and put them
in the "Originals" folder. When you want to drive
on the original track store the custom track in the "Customs"
folder and drag out the original, and when you want a custom
track store the original and drag out the custom one.

|
| Q:
How do I install a custom track? |
|
Answer:
First, find what track it replaces ie.
(tr000). Then go to the NFS folder and go to gamedata/tracks/tr000
and paste the unzipped files into this folder. You should
be asked if you want to replace the existing files. Assuming
that you backed up the track folder as shown above, click
"yes to all". Then start the game and click on the
track that you replaced. In this case: tr000 is Hometown. |

|
| Q:
I can see track changes but no texture changes, why? |
|
Answer:
There are 2 possibilities
for this. 1) make sure the zip file contained a QFS file and
that it was put in the correct folder, or 2) You no not have
a 3D accelerator. NFS made 2 texture files: one for 3Dfx and
D3D, and one for 16 bit. Most track designers only make changes
to the 3Dfx file because it allows for more color changes
and editing. |

| Q:
How many cars can NFS3 have? |
|
Answer:
Roughly 50. If you want more,
you can store car folders elsewhere and trade them in and
out when you want. |
|
|
| Q:
I have way less than 50 cars but I get a"duplicate cars
found" error, what does it mean? |
|
Answer:
It means that one of the cars you have
just installed has the identical serial number as another
car, so you have 2 options. 1) delete the car you just downloaded,
or 2) open the car file with VIV wizard and change the serial
number. |

| Q:
When I use T3ED to change a track I run into an invisible
wall or go thru real walls, what can I do? |
|
Answer:
In track editor click on the track section
that is causing the problem and go to edit tools/adjust road
width. If this does not solve the problem, click on individual
road polygons and go to edit tools/ ploygon flags and make
sure the polygons are either passible or not passable, depending
on what you want. |
|
|
| Q:
Which file do I use to change textures? |
|
Answer:
There are a few QFS files in each track
folder. Most designers modify the tr0x0 file instead of the
tr0x1, where x is the track number. This is because the tr0x0
is for 3Dfx textures, and allows for more changes in the texture.
If you wish to change the tr0x1 (16 bit file) remember one
thing... You cannot change the COLOR pallette! |
|
|
| Q:
How do I use QFS suite? |
|
Answer:
I would make a folder on
your desktop called "qfsedt" and unzip the QFS Suite
in there. Next, put the QFS file you want to edit in that
folder. Then go to your start menu and click on the "run"
button. Ex.) for the tr000.qfs file type: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\qfsedit\QFS2FSH
tr000.qfs tr000.fsh
- Next type:
- C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\qfsedit\FSH2BMP
tr000.fsh tr000
- In the "qfsedt" folder
you should now see a new folder called tr000. When you
open it you will see lots of small bmp files that can
now be edited by any paint program. Do the reverse to
change the bmp file back into a qfs file. Then put the
qfs file back in the correct track folder.
