IV. JESUS:God and Son of God, Part 2

John 10:34 cannot be ignored. It was the words of Christ, which has authority, power and potency. Jesus told the Jews that calling himself the Son of God was not blasphemy because even the Jews believe that we are all the children of the Most High.  Christians must believe the same because it is Biblical and came from Jesus Himself.

On Previous pages, the question of how to intrepret the Bible was raised. It is obvious in passages of the Bible that it can not always be taken literally. Let's now take the phrase from John 3:16 "Only Begotten Son of God".
"Only" was touched on earlier. But to add more here are some more verses to ponder on.

Luke 3: 38: Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which
was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Adam is also the son of God, and when you think about it, he didn't have an earthly mother either...does this make him superior to Jesus?

Hebrews Chapter 7:
1.For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2: To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem,which is, King of peace;
3: Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Melchisedec too.

Let's talk about "Begotten".

Remember the first two versus on the first page?

John 4:24: God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must worship him in Spirit
and Truth.

John 6:63: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing, the words that I speak unto you, they are the spirit, and and they are the life.

So, if the flesh profiteth nothing, then what is the significance of being "begotten"?  It was a miracle that Mary gave birth to Jesus while still being a virgin, but if the flesh profiteth nothing, there's something more to Jesus than the condition of his physical body.

Let's look at some more verses.

John 8:54: Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it
is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I
know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep
his saying.
56: Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57: Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58: Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham
was, I am

ALRIGHT.  Now I am excited. Jesus is saying that He existed before He was even born! Do you think he existed physically? If so, why did he need to be born of Mary? Jesus existed spritually! Now doesn't this just completely contradict a belief in a physically "begotten" son? Could "begotten" have a symbolic spiritual meaning as well?  Jesus was created and "begotten" long before Abraham, long before Mary!

Heb:13:8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

Is Jesus God?

John 1: 18: No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son,
which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

John5: 30: I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my
judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the
Father which hath sent me.

There are more than these that allude to the fact that there is a distinction between Jesus and God.  There is a reason why Jesus referred to God as His Father. As I said earlier, just because one is begotten of his father, doesn't mean that he IS his father.
