Day Five after the Surgery - Monday January 11, 1999

Today was a continuation of the prior day. Katie was feeling less discomfort from being moved but she was irritable due to her bowels. Her stomach was hard and distended. Definitely feeling better than the prior day. Morphine was taken away dropping it to 0.5ml at 9:00 and down to 0.00ml at 12:00. There was no side affect to this and the only pain killer was Tylenol (465mg). The day also saw Lytren being increased to 75cc per hour up from the 25 we attempted yesterday. The increase in fluid via the G-Tube did see an increase in other bodily fluids. Increased saliva was noticed.

With the prompting of the doctors first thing in the morning, we managed to get Katie into a wheel chair in a fairly upright position. She looked great and held her head high. We kept her in the chair for 45 minutes. She is still tired from the whole affair and has had several short naps through the day. Going home is getting closer to reality.
