Eating, Drinking, Etc.

This page provides links to my favorite foods, restaurants, clubs, bars, breweries, etc. These are stand outs for different reasons but are all places or products I consider myself a patron of.

Mountain Valley Brew Pub - This local brew pub has been a frequent stop of mine for 7 years now. Honestly, the beer was better when Jay Misson was around. Now I go to drink the good special beers (Mai Bock, Cold Conditioned Copper, Octoberfest, Pumpkin Ale), play darts and talk Phish and lights with some of the locals. There are other reasons as well...

The Allendale Bar & Grill - This is my Cheers. A local hangout of mine when you want to drink and don't have to drive home. Safety first of course. Then get some buffalo shrimp, any of the soups and any of the burgers and/or specials. You will not be disappointed. Good selection of beers and top-shelf liquors and always great service and patrons.

New Belgium Brewing Company/Fat Tire - This brewing company produces some of the best beers to enjoy during all seasons and all Phish tours. Big fan of the Fat Tire Amber and Sunshine Wheat. They also sponsor great mountain biking events and beer naming contests.

The Ginger Man - Talk about a selection of beers. It would take you a full work week for the entire year to try all of these beers. Fortunately, I work across the street from the place. Good people too.

This is what happens when you don't go to the AB&G- Stuck at home passing out. Way to go Jen.

Bacari Grill - In desperate need of a new drinking venue, we chose to go to one of the girls' favorite bars. The Grill, known better for its dinners and private party accomodations is a more classy joint than any of the above. The decor is sharp and the drinks stiff. Good service and more.

L'Express - This French Bistro located on Park Ave South and 20th Street in Manhattan offers pretty decent food and incredible eye candy. It is a 24 hour joint that often has celebrities and models walking in. A fun place. Talk to Eddie the bartender and order some mushroom raviolis. Mmm.

The Cottage Place - I went on a Valentine's Day date to this lovely and rather expensive restaurant in Flagstaff, AZ. It was the only time since (and ever) that I was served flowers in my salad. They don't taste all that bad but kinda boring. The rest of the night could have been better (it snowed/rained and J was not all that happy with me that night) but other than that it was great. Got to spend time with PJ and Erin that night as well.

Rive Gauche - This is the sister bistro/ restaurant of L'Express. It has a quicker turnover rate of employees than L'Express which tells you something but not much. Better menu, bigger prices and a more northern NYC address.

Salamander - No they don't serve salamanders there...or did they. This creperie in Lyon stands out to me. I was so tired, jet lagged and had a headache like none other because all I heard for 14 hours straight was the French language. A loud conversation and the radio blaring. I remember ordering the best crepe ever and a can (it came in a large, old, rustic can) of cider. And I'm thinking this stuff is the plain ol' New England apple kind. No siree. Remember that headache. Now multiply it by 150. But those crepes and an interesting rainy night in Lyon.

The Black Bean - Now we are talking burritos. Holy cow. I have never had a better burrito than at this place. My favorite was the Chicken Parm burrito. These things were ha uge and really cured a hangover midday.

Savini's - Another Valentines Day. This was with my good friend Cindi who should be part owner of this place by now. Plus, she has a thing for a bartender there. Anyway, the food was quite good, service not bad either but the hostess was the biggest $%^&@ I have come across in a long time. It almost made me want to go somewhere else, but...we didn't. Had to try the new place in town.

Aldo's - The first Aldo's, before it was mysteriously burned to the ground (yep), was excellent. Great service by Italians who thicken their accents so much you could wave a butter knife in the air around them and it'd drip a combination of olive oil, Chianti and fresh basil. The best thing on the menu is their Spidini. I have never come across a better Italian appetizer. All this down the street in Wyckoff.
