C.M. Punk beat William Regal (w/Layla) by DQ in an Intercontinental Title match in 3:00. Punk hit the high knee at 2:40, but Regal avoided the bulldog. Punk set up Regal for the GTS, but Regal grabbed the ropes and then the referee, who disqualified him. Layla grabbed the belt and gave it to Regal at ringside.

Stephanie McMahon appeared on the big screen and said she couldn't let the first title match of 2009 end that way, so Punk would get a rematch. She said Regal would lose the belt if he was disqualified.

UGO.com compiled a list of the best technical wrestlers. William Regal ranked #12 on their list.

If technical wrestling is the most realistic style we see in the ring than William Regal is the Raymond Chandler of the ring. He's opted for a more of a brawler style recently, which is probably due to the constraints of the allotted television time, but when he is allowed to, Regal can put on a show with the best of them. His arsenal is full of the slams, throws and holds, and few have the ring acumen to rile up the crowd the way he does.

Cody comes to the ring and awaits his opponent. Out next is CM Punk, who taunts Cody as he enters the ring. Cody comes to the ring and awaits his opponent. Out next is CM Punk, who taunts Cody as he enters the ring. As Punk enters the ring, William Regal comes to ringside with Layla and takes a seat to scout the match. They announce the match with Punk for next week's show. Punk and Cody lock up and run the ropes with shoulders. Punk and Cody trade 2 counts early on. Punk kicks Cody in the back and covers him for a 1 count. Cody with a 1 count of his own. Punk with a dropkick off the ropes and another 2 count. They trade kicks to the gut and Cody lays Punk out and gets a 2 count. They trade pins again as Regal looks on. More close calls as Cody takes Punk to the mat. Punk fights to his feet and drops Cody with a big kick. Punk climbs to the top and nails the cross body but Cody flips over and gets a 2 count on Punk. Cody ends up on the apron and Punk kicks him in the head, sending him to the floor. Punk dives through the ropes at Cody but hits his face first on the announcer's table. That looked nasty. They kick and punch each other on the floor as the referee counts. Punk nails the high knee on the outside. Regal distracts Punk as Cody hits the ring at the 9 count and Punk gets counted out. Winner by countout: Cody Rhodes Punk is pissed after the match and he brings Cody back in the ring to work him over. William Regal comes in the ring and attacks Punk from the side with a knee to the face. Layla brings Regal his IC Title and he kisses it before they leave together and Punk lays in the ring.

Also, Punk will face Regal next week on RAW for the IC Title.

Wrestling blog WWE Characters has named William Regal as #6 on their list of the Best Things for the WWE in 2008.

"While it was a bad year for our #5 individual, it was perhaps fittingly a "regal" year for William Regal. Earlier in the year, Regal won the 2008 King of the Ring tournament, beating the likes of CM Punk. From there, the 2008 King became the General Manager of Raw, a tyrant who abused the fans. Regal had the lights cut out on matches, ordered matches to be stopped and threatened to have fans thrown out. All this resulted in an eventual match with Mr. Kennedy, in which the loser had to leave Raw. Regal was dismissed from Raw for some time (due to a Wellness policy violation) but upon his return, he managed to defeat Santino Marella to capture the Intercontinental Title. Regal also picked up a "Queen" in the process, as WWE Diva Layla became Regal's gal pal and sidekick. Heading towards 2009, Regal will look to build on that success, but will have a tough challenge when he defends his title against CM Punk."

William Regal defeated C.M. Punk to retain the Intercontinental Championship in Hershey, PA. ProWrestling.Net says:

"William Regal (w/Layla) defeated C.M. Punk to retain the Intercontinental Championship. Biggest pop thus far for Punk while Regal scored his typical, glorious chorus of boos from the crowd. I'm always amazed how much heat Regal attracts just by flashing a specific look on his face. Just awesome. A pretty solid match ended very abruptly by what looked like an injury, but not to either Regal or Punk. As Punk lifted Regal up for the GTS, Layla hopped on the apron to do the typical 'heel manager distracts the referee' bit. When she got on the apron, it looked like she twisted her ankle and the referee held her up for a second. She fell to the floor and against the guard rail.

Regal delivered a punch to Punk and picked up the win. Just a punch, no brass knuckles. The referee counted to three, looked agitated, and called for the bell. Then he waved it off. Then he called for the bell again. Layla managed to roll into the ring and, from where I was sitting, appeared to apologize to Regal right away. She then limped around the ring with the Intercontinental Championship before Punk delivered the GTS to Regal. The referee and Howard Finkel exchanged some words before Regal, still selling the GTS, was obviously aiding Layla to the back. Maybe she was just selling REALLY well but whatever the case was, the finish definitely didn't seem like it was the intended result."

According to our forum members, William Regal is mentioned in the January edition of WWE magazine. It mentions his New Year's Resolution, which is to wake up half an hour earlier so that he can hate people longer. I believe he said the same thing in WCW, so apparently he has had a hard time accomplishing this goal. ;)
He's also mentioned for winning Best Hair.

I may be revamping the gallery in the next couple of days. To be frank it's disorganized and unattractive. Hopefully I'll be able to make a better looking and better organized gallery, so keep an eye out for that.

I apologize for the lack of updates the past week. I've been really sick with what I intially thought was a stomach virus but ended up being a sinus infection. I also have been busy preparing for college, which starts in a month.

According to Rajah.com, the reason William Regal was eliminated so early was because he was ill with either the flu or a cold. If this is true, then we hope he feels better soon! :)
