Mecklenburg Co Tax records indicate that he was not living with his dad when he was a young boy. However, on the petition that George Adam and his son Christian signed, vouching for Lutheran Minister David Henkle, of Lincoln County, a John Keigel signed also. In 1822 the Diary of Phillip Henkle, John Keicher is mentioned, in the area that appeared to be on Long Creek, in Mecklenburg Co. or Lincoln Co. NC.

To my (Donna) knowledge, there is no proof that verifies Katherine to be a daughter of George Adam and Elizabeth Keicher/Kiker. However, with census records, children's names and notes from Mr. McGowan, I have entered her in as a child for research purposes.

According to the 1800 census for George Adam, there was a female under the age of 10 who has been unaccounted for. On the 1810 census there are two females age 10-16, who I believe could be Katherine and Margaret. On the 1820 census for Henry Long, the female is age 16-26.

A reference for the children and their families is CHRIS REEDER , a LONG family researcher. I (Donna) have also used the census records. This family lived in Mecklenburg and Union County, NC. The following notes were received from Mr. McGowan of NC

"HENRY LONG III was the son of HENRY and CATHERINE PENCE LONG, researcher, John B. McGowan of Laurinburg NC."

In reading correspondence from Mr. McGowan, a DR. FLYNN V. LONG, dec'd about 1980 in Charlotte NC, is quoted that CHARLES WILLIAM LONG was named for KATHERINE KIKER'S father, CHARLES.

The following was written by DR. FLYNN V. LONG. "There is a slight possibility that HENRY was born in the Valley of Virginia, but more probably in Mecklenburg of North Carolina. In the light of the 1765 date, this seems more likely. The difficulty one encounters in dealing with HENRY is the name of the person he married. There is no doubt that (he) married the daughter of CHRISTIAN KIKER. Our problem is her first name. We are of the opinion that her name was KATHERINE. She named her first daughter KATHERINE. Everyone that has expressed an opinion goes along with this affirmation.

In the year 1820 when the will of ANNA CATHERINE LONG, the wife of HENRY LONG, deceased was probated, HENRY III was designated Executor of the will. The will was settled peaceable and in order. HENRY lived on in the home place until he died in 1843. There is some doubt about the place of his burial as there is also of his mother, Catherine, and his father, Henry, Jr. The Morgan(?) family living at the old home place are emphatic in saying that there was a family burial plot on the original estate. Others are of the same opinion. There is a unanimous agreement that in only recent years after ownership had changed hands that the place had been leveled. We have come to the conclusion, since we are unable to locate any of these graves, that they have been removed and the place thereof, knew of it no more. On the other hand, they could have been buried in the Union Cemetery or at Bethelem Church on Duck Creek where so many graves are unmarked.

In 1843, the date of HENRY III's demise, the KIKER family, of which KATHERINE belonged, they gave the Power of Attorney to JACOB LONG, a brother of HENRY, for the purpose of settling claims in the will of CHRISTIAN KIKER, deceased. CHARLES was Executor of the Estate, but he left the state and removed himself and belongings to Georgia. This is another indication of KATHERINE's relationship."

NOTE BY (DONNA): We now know that the above mentioned CHARLES was in fact the son of GEORGE ADAM KEICHER/KIKER who moved to Cass Co. GA in 1840. Also, the JOHN INGRAHAM KIKER, who gave Power of Attorney to JACOB LONG, was the son of CHRISTIAN--2ND son of GEORGE ADAM--, whose death is referred to, NOT the CHRISTIAN believed to be father of GEORGE ADAM, CONRAD and this CATHERINE. Perhaps this is why Dr. Flynn refers to a "CHARLES" being the father of CATHERINE??.
