New York was awesome! The flight kinda sucked, it was a hassle going through customs and stuff and there was a lot of turbulence. On the positive side, I was amazed at my ability to find the hostel in one go! The hostel was okay, a bit cramped but quite centrally located and clean enough. That evening I walked up to 42nd Street where I watched Shrek 2 (I couldn't resist!) and then took a cab back. In the youth hostel I ended up talking to a Belgian and a Scottish guy, and we went to this really cute lounge/bar closeby. The Scot was a bit of a freak ("If you promise not to look at me fiercely again I'll take you out to dinner tomorrow") but it was still fun.

The next day I went to Central Park and walked down Fifth Avenue which has a huge amount of very expensive designer clothes stores, Tiffany's and a Lindt chocolate shop. At 6:30 PM I met up with Nat (she was everywhere!) and we went to the Empire State Building. The visibility was only 2 miles, so you couldn't see very much. However, because of this it wasn't very busy at all so we didn't have to wait in line for ages. And the cool thing was that it was kind of foggy which gave the skyscrapers in the distance a spooky appearance. I took so many pictures up there! With my disposable camera of course.. For dinner Nat and I went to this diner, which is one of those typical American cheap restaurants that you always see in movies. Hugh Grant and the girl from Coyote Ugly had both been to this diner (pictures were on the wall). The food was absolutely gorgeous, and the ambience was exactly what you see in movies, including the Spanish-speaking waitress with a loud voice!

The day after that Nat and I walked around Manhattan. First we took a ferry past the Statue of Liberty. It's so small! On all the movies you're led to believe that it's huge! Afterwards we walked through the business district, past Ground Zero. That was really strange, it's just completely empty. There's a fence around it with some pictures and the names of all the people who died, but there's nothing to see. The idea that so many people died there is incredible. Nat and I walked on to the Brooklyn Bridge and then on to Chinatown. There we had lunch at this delicious Malaysian restaurant, which brought back memories from when I lived there. I even went back the next day to doggybag some satay to take back to Holland. Couldn't deprive my parents of it! From Chinatown we took the metro to Times Square where we bought tickets to a Broadway show called The Producers. The musical was fun, but it wasn't wonderful. I'm more into those emotional musicals, this was more show. But it was still fun. We initially planned to go to the Lion King or to Aida, but neither of them were playing. Too bad... After the musical we went to have cocktails and then we said goodbye. Nat left for Central America the morning after, and I went back to Holland.

My arrival in Holland was cool. Tjitske and Jet both came to pick me up, which I didn't expect! Of course my parents were there and so was my sis. And now I'm back home and trying to find a job.. And I'm already looking forward to going back to Toronto! I miss Sukrit.. But it's nice to have holiday and be able to relax.
Anyway, gotta go and walk my dog.. Take care!
