Drum N Bass -
There are numerous variations on Drum & bass, examples are atmospheric and intelligent. Typical DJ's/producers are Roni Size & LTJ Bukem.
House (Funky) -
Funky house is quite simply house, but with a funky twist, being either a twangy bassline, disco samples or simply a simple funky feel. There is no set tempo to funky house as it is quite a loose genre. Typical funky labels include Sharp Recordings, AM:PM, 2Play and Sublime. DJ's/producers associated with the genre are The Sharp Boys, Malcomn Duffy, Alan Thompson and OnePhatDeeva.Trance -
There are many different styles (uplifting, euro, hard, progressive, acid, etc) associated with the trance genre. Basically trance uses riffs or patterns in the music which are repeated over and over with various effects to create a feeling. Where something like techno would mostly rely on rhythmic elements, trance relies more on a single or various melodies. Euro trance relies more on strong riffs and hooks and utilises long breakdowns and buildups. Technotrance as the name suggests uses harder tehcno inspired sounds such as bubbly acid sounds and harsher percussion. Often technotrance will have a subtlely darker harder feel to it. The tempo of trance varies a lot but could be anything around the 140 BPM mark. Typical DJ's/producers are Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and Oliver Lieb. Typical labels are Tsunami, Black Hole, Telica and Eve.Progressive (House, Trance) -
Progressive music be it house or trance is simply stuff that is 'progressive' meaning that there are no cheesy riffs, samples or anything obvious. That is to say progressive music has more underground feel to it and can often be seen to have a more structured musical feel to it. Typical progressive DJ's/producers are Sasha, John Digweed, Parks and Wilson and Danny Howells, whilst typical labels would be Quad Communications, Hooj Choons, Limbo and Fluid.
