TAE KWON DOG
It was a noisy fire station,
Gus was barking at the mailman.
"Easy boy! No need for confrontation!
You've got a letter from your cousin Edmund."
I’ve got a job, now, here in town,
I work security for the courthouse clerk.
I’m taking martial arts at 10th and Brown,
Why don’t you join me after work?
It was just a few blocks from the station,
And Gus had seen the place before.
He quickly reached the destination,
And walked right through the door.
Their coats were white, their belts were black,
They broke their boards with knife-hand chops.
Gus took his place right in the back...
White belt, white coat (with big black spots).
They cited words of accountability,
“Truth, Allegiance, Excellence,
Kindness, Wisdom, Order, Nobility,
Depend On God Omnipotent.”
Their Master was a golden lab,
Of rank and grace beyond compare.
He taught them how to punch and jab,
And throw their kicks up in the air.
The senior dogs stood up in front,
To test their might on concrete bricks.
Not ready yet for such a stunt,
Gus practiced breaking small wood sticks.
To improve their skills and gain agility,
They marched in drills across the floor.
And to help them build more flexibility,
He had them stretch ‘til they were sore.
Gus did his form, then down he knelt,
It was a mighty fine premier.
When they presented him his yellow belt,
That dog beamed from ear to ear.
The time flew by, he’d had a blast,
Gus never knew that he’d been fooled.
Our Chief was glad, for now at last,
That dog was in obedience school.
