HOT DATE

It was a casual fire station,
Our Chief had gone out on a date.
We had a reprieve from regulations,
And it was time to take a break.

Preston and Brown were out on a mission
To Jim Bob’s Videos, Drywall, and Bait,
While Gus and Max were in the kitchen,
To try their best at baking a cake.


A clean shaven face,
As he looks in the mirror,
This handsome young mate,
On his first date in three years.

He pulls up to her court,
And steps out of his van,
A knock on the door,
And out comes Miss Louann.


“I’ve made reservations
At that place on the bay.
And then our next destination’s
An opera at 8:00.”

As they rode in the car
It was a siren-filled street.
There goes Ladder Truck 4,
I wonder what could it be?


“I just love the Phantom of the Opera,
Have you seen the show before?”
“Well, yes, though I’ve forgotten ---
It was late at night and out of doors.”

“Was it the original by Leroux?
Or in a genre like Fantasia?”
“No, it was an unusual debut ---
A genre Vaudeville-Dalmatia.”


“Would that be Italian or Croatian?”
I forgot her bouquet!
“I need to stop off at the station ---
It’s just a minor delay.”

Up ahead they saw some cinders,
And then some flares down on the road.
Then from the fire house doors and windows,
Out came a cloud of billowing smoke!


Ladder 6 and Ladder 4,
And Engines 25 and 17.
The Heavy Search and Rescue Corps,
And a dozen more trucks were on the scene.

A deafening drone from overhead,
And as they looked up to the sky,
Blinding spotlights, flashing red,
It was Aerial Command and TV 5.


With the fire now extinguished,
There was no damage to relate.
Though Chief was quite embarrassed,
This was no way to start a date!

Then Gus came out all dirty,
And he had a couple extra spots.
He baked that cake at five hundred thirty,
Instead of three-fifty as on the box.

“Dan, you look a little dazed.
Is everything OK?
Let’s get to that restaurant on the bay,
I’m looking forward to our date.”
