Life in the mid 20th Century
The history of the 20th century is very well documented. There are many personal accounts and biographies available on the internet, but each has its own place and emphasis.
The following are details of the life and observations of a person born in London, England who lived through the middle and the end-of-century period. He immigrated to Canada in the middle of the century but kept current with happenings in London by numerous visits and correspondence with relations & friends.
The twentieth century was the period in time that events from all over the world was available to the man-in-the-street. Photography, the Radio, Television and, towards the end of the century, the computer took the news direct to the interested.
Important events like the crash & burning of the "Hindenberg" airship and the Atom Bomb were spectacularly recorded by photograph. The assassination of President Kennedy and its aftermath was covered by radio. The landing of men on the moon was covered live on television.
But what is often missing or hidden is the way people lived and how such important events as above affected them. I hope that the following articles will give some light on life in this period as seen by one person, Don Joseph. These articles are as follows.
