Kharak, your home or at least that is what you thought. An ancient ship is found in the great desert and inside the truth, your home is a lie, your life on kharak was one of an exiles nightmare, time to escape.....

The construction of a mothership class vessel begins to search for the truth, your real home, Hiigara, is out there somewhere waiting to be reclaimed it's time for the journey to begin......

Homeworld is a simply huge game, played in real time. You start at Kharak with limited ships and technologies and as you progress you meet new alien races some friendly like the Bentusi others not, like the Turanic raiders and your biggest enemy the Taiidan empire who want you crushed. Each mission ( 16 single player missions ) will give you the chance to develop new ships with ever greater fire power and you will need it! but don't be fooled not every mission is a fire fight, some require a more thoughtful approach, go in guns blazing and your fleet will be smashed and your game over!

You can't build ships without resources, collect the resoures, build the ships, from destroyers to scouts, from resource collectors to salvage corvettes and research ships. Use these to develop fighter drive, capital ship drive and all the other technologies you need to progress and to build the king of all battle ships: the heavy cruiser.

The movement of your ships, which can be a single scout craft to a battle group of destroyers is very easy, Simply select the ship/s you want to control, press M on the keyboard and point them in the direction you want to go. To move long distances press the space bar and bring up the sensors manager, which is like a map of space and in some levels this "map" can be huge. Movement is also three dimensional up and down etc. Battle is done on a line of sight basis, if the emeny is on your screen, attack!

The final mission sees the battle for your homeworld and the destruction of the Taiidan empire and this mission is tough!

Homeworld also supports multi player action over the web, but I have yet to play this space arena...

I strongly recommend that you visit the Sierra web site and download the lastest patches for the game, as they contain better build times for the construction of ships and also some ships take less resources to build allways a bounus!

Homeworld has won a truck load of awards and rightly so, this is a great game, a must buy for any fan of real time strategy games. The graphics are amazing and on a big monitor you really feel like you are flying through space!
