How to Make

A Satin and Fringe Footstool

finished stool

Materials:

Pre-made footstool
Fringe the length around twice
Less than 1/2 yd of satin
Paint
Heavy duty staple gun
Polyfil stuffing
Upholstery needle
Thread to match the fringe

paint stool Like you may have read in my article, "Easy Decorating with Pre-Made Crafts", craft and fabric stores sell many things that are mostly finished to get you started on a fast and easy project. This is one of those. Buy a pre-made footstool and paint the legs, base and underneath.
cut fabric Lay your satin out on a flat surface. Cut an oval or square depending on your shape a few inches larger as shown. You don't have to worry about exact measurements because we will pull and tighten as we go along later.
staple fabric Staple the fabric to the top, bottom and both sides with a heavy duty staple gun. Before stapling, tuck the fabric under for a smooth edge.
stuff Flip the stool upright and through one of the corners, stuff the stool. Keep working the stuffing around until you are pleased with it's thickness and it looks even all the way around.
staple all the way around Turn the stool upside down again and begin to staple the fabric down. Remember to continue turning the fabric under. I suggest doing the front, then the back, then a side, then the opposite to avoid becoming lopsided. Push any extra fabric under and staple evenly all the way around.
sew fringe upholstry needleUsing an upholstery needle which is shaped like this terrible graphic, hold the fringe up to the fabric and stitch it on all the way around. Use a thread that matches the fringe color. The needle is shaped in a curve so you can put in in and it will bring itself out for you. It's a lot simpler than it sounds.
staple fringe Flip the stool upside down once again and make sure all fringe is away from the wood. Place the second length of fringe on the stool and staple it close to the wood's edge all the way around. Turn it over and the stool is done!
