pre-made crafts

Easy Decorating
with pre-made crafts

At your local craft store, you can find many things made of paper mache, wood, metal, and plaster. As I said before, sometimes it's easier to make your own instead of scouring the world for something to match your decor. Well, they sell shelves, boxes, stools, candle sticks, lunch box style purses, dishes, or a ton of other things pre-made, just waiting for you to add your artistic touch. All you need is a little vision, and without much effort, you can add those special little homey touches to your gothic lair!

Here are some examples:

plaster sconce These decorative sconces I actually found at Walmart. They are made of plaster. I painted them using forest green and some different shades of wine and purple, as well as black and pewter. Finish off with a couple coats of enamel spray, I used gloss, but they also have matte. All that was left was to hang them and drape lovely black fabric through them creating a fast and easy drape. This set frames my bed, but you can make easy curtains, or drape mirrors, whatever you like!
picture frame trinket box This is a memento box I found at a scrap book store. It is made of paper mache and is the right size to hold snapshots or trinkets. I like to keep memories attached to the picture I have placed in the frame. Keeping it simple, I just painted the whole thing black, and used metallic purple for the details. Tip: I place a piece of cardstock, longer than the frame inside the picture frame while painting and spraying enamel. This ensures that you don't paint the opening shut.
painted tin purse
This is not really in the category of decorating, but they sell lunch box style metal purses unfinished at the craft store. You can either paint them or simply add a decorative sticker.
