Mariah Carey- Her Story -Chris Nickson
A good starting place if like me you missed out on the early interviews (up to about 1994). However it finishes in 1994 with the release of Merry Christmas. Nickson does a good job of telling an inspiring story but tends to ignore anything even remotely negative so it's not the full story. But he does talk about each track on each album, giving you a feel for the music.

Mariah Carey- Revisited- Chris Nickson
Updated version of the previous text. Just the diffrence in cover shots fromthe original book (Mariah in fluffy jumper) to this new issue (Mariah in sexyy leather dress) tells you Nickson is dealing with post-Tommy Mariah. Essentially its the same book up to 1994. He adds a few new quotes and takes out the earlier chapter which put Mariah in context with the divas before her (Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Madonna, Whitney etc.). Takes the story up to early 1998 when Mariah's divorce came through. Continues to be thorough about the music.

Mariah Carey: Real Life Reader Biography by Melanie Cole (Mitchell Lane Publishers, USA, 1998 ISBN: 1-8883845-51-3)
Easy to read biography of Mariah from series of books about inspirational people, includes colour pictures. Takes Mariah's story up to her divorce

Mariah Carey- Marc Shapiro (2001)
Shapiro states at the beginning that he wants to avoid quoting from reviews (unlike Nickson), while this avoids some of the criticism quoted in Nickson's book it does give the book a feel of being concentrated on MC's personal life while skimming over her music, writing and producing. He draws heavily on Nickson's books though so many of the early chapters are very similar.
