Kagome is a school girl living in Tokyo, Japan. On her 15th birthday she wonders off looking for her cat, Buyo, and ends up tracing him to the old shrine that her grandfather used to run. After entering the shrine a giant centipede demon lady pulls her through the Bone-eater's Well and out into Feudal Japan. After freeing herself from the demon, she finds Inuyasha, a half-demon who tried to steal the Shikon no Tama(Jewel of 4 Souls) 50 years ago, who is pinned to the Go Shinboku(God Tree) by Kikyo's, a shrine maiden and Inuyasha's first "love", arrow. She frees him when the centipede demon comes back and Inuyasha kills it, but shatters the Shikon no Tama, which was embedded in Kagome's body, in the process. So now he is forced to team up with Kagome, at first against his will but later on they warm up to each other, to find all the missing shard pieces.
