| Walt Disney World - The Rest of the World 1. Downtown Disney Lego Store - Be sure and look for the sleeping LEGO man on the bench. Take and picture. Can you hear him snoring? 2. Electrical Water Pagent - This is a floating water pagent on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. And, it is FREE! It can be seen from the Polynesian at 9:00pm, Grand Floridian at 9:15pm, Wilderness Lodge at 9:35pm, Fort Wilderness at 9:45pm, and Contemporary at 10:05pm. Just find your way to the waterside, sit back and enjoy! 3. Port Orleans Resort French Quarter - The musical notes behind the check-in counter are the song "When the Saints Go Marching In". 4. All Star Music Resort - The musical notes behind the check-in counter are the the song "When You Wish Upon a Star". 5. All Star Sports Resort - The musical notes by the Beverage Bar at Intermission Court are the song "Be Our Guest." 6. All Star Movie Resort - When you count all of the dalmations, those on the walls as well, you should come up with 101. Ninety eight cutouts on the building sides, two big ones, Pongo and Perdita, and little Lucky by the "television" decoration. 7. Boardwalk Resort - Outside you can hear the sound of sea gulls...even when there are no birds around! The recorded / piped-in sound makes it really feel like you are at the sea shore! 8. Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge Resort Lady Bug Release Program - This program takes place at the Polynesian Resort every Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. and also at the Wilderness Lodge 10:00 a.m. Each guest is given a matchbox containing some ladybugs. You release the ladybugs onto the nearby plants. Ladybugs are attractive carnivorous insects that eat other "bad" insects. By using this process, Walt Disney World has managed to reduce their chemical pest control by more than 70 percent. This is an educational experience for your child that could come in handy if your child is expected to hand in some educational papers for school concerning their trip. The ladybug release is free and open to anyone who wishes to participate. 9. Polynesian Resort Torch Ceremony - At 6:00 pm each night they hold a torch-lighting ceremony, which includes an authentic Polynesian torch-bearer, drums and chants. It is a short but free ceremony. 10. Wilderness Lodge - Listen for the sound of a chainsaw buzzing in the woods if you sit on your back porch long enough. Also the sound of an owl "hooting" when you are walking from the lodge to the villas. Once again, recorded sounds to help set the "stage" and environment! 11. Wilderness Lodge Flag Ceremony - One family is selected each day to raise the American Flag in the morning, and another family is selected to lower the flag at the end of the day. The family is taken to the roof of the Wilderness Lodge. The program takes about 10 minutes, during which you are treated to a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom. They also take your picture, give you a frame, and some families may receive a certificate to get a free breakfast. If you want to participate, mention "Flag Family" when you check into the resort and ask if you can sign up. It is a free event. 12. Wilderness Lodge - Leaving the Wilderness Lodge via boat, look back at the Lodge, the architecture suggests a bear's face. This is an awesome sight at night. On the top of the main lodge there are two windows that make the eyes. The huge light fixture makes his nose/mouth. Finally the wings of the hotel and the lights on the walkways make the arms and claws! 13. Monorail - Ask if you can sit in the front cab with the operator. It only seats four and you may have to wait for the next train and/or get on at a Resort. But, it is worth the experience and your child will get a Monorail Pilot's license! |
