Hercules

Hercules is the hero of the story. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, but as a baby he is stolen by Hades' (the god of the Underworld) clumsy assistants Pain and Panic and turned into a mortal, but because he did not drink all of the potion, he still retains his God - Like strength. Amphitryon and Alcmene find Hercules and adopt him. When he is young, Hercules strength doesn't help him and he is seen as a bit of a freak by the village. After knocking down a building with his clumsiness, Hercules leaves the village to try and find out where he belongs. He journeys to the Temple of Zeus. The giant statue of Zeus comes alive and tells his son, about his real life as a god. He tells him to find Philoctetes, who will train him as a hero, and when he proves himself as a true hero he will be able to return to Mount Olympus. Hercules finds Phil, and after much persuasion, he turns Hercules into a 'hero'. Hercules kills the 30 headed hydra, which turns him into the most famous person in all of Greece. This still does not make him a 'true hero'. Hercules falls in love with Meg, whose soul belongs to Hades. When Hades finds out that Hercules is still alive he is furious. He sends Meg to seduce him and find out his weakness. Hades makes a deal with Herc. On the eve of the night when Hades' plan to take over the Universe, the one that only Hercules can ruin, he makes a deal that he will give Meg her freedom, if Hercules gives up his strength for 24 hours. However Hercules will regain his strength if Meg gets hurt. After Hades unleashes the Titans on Mount Olympus, Zeus is failing. However a column which is about to fall on Hercules falls on Meg, when she pushes Hercules out of the way, he regains his strength, and defeats Hades. Sadly Meg dies. This angers Hercules who goes down to the Underworld, and pulls Meg's soul out of the death pit. This DOES turn him into a true hero. He goes up to Mount Olypus, but refuses godhood to be with Meg and everyone has a happy ending.

Hades

Hades is the ruthless ruler of the Underworld, who is dying to take over the Universe, and he certainly will go to any lengths to get what he wants! He is always ready with a sarcastic remark, and is literally a hot head, with flames for hair, and gets angry very easily. He takes most of his anger out on his two hapless assistants Pain and Panic. Early in the story he turns Hercules mortal, and thinks that he is dead. He owns Meg's soul, and uses her to get to Hercules once he finds out that he is still living. To take over Zeus and Mount Olympus, he uses the giant Titans. The Fates tell him things that are happening, past, present and future. He gets defeated when Hercules fights. On the other side of things he seems to be the only character, apart from maybe Pain and Panic, who doesn't get a happy ending!

James Woods is the voice of Hades

Philoctetes

Phil is sort of a hero in the story. He is a Satyr (half man, half goat) He is the one who teaches Hercules how to become a hero. When Hercules comes to him, he says he is retired, but Hercules convinces him otherwise. Phil likes to flirt with the ladies, and tries it on a couple of times with nymphs and Meg, but eventually gets a kiss out of a god up on Mount Olympus! He is a bit of a smart alec and always has a quick response for things! He doesn't like Meg much, cos she is such a distraction to Hercules. At times Phil can get quite emotional, but most the time he is pretty strict, with many rules, and keeps Hercules to a strict schedule! He gets extremely proud when the Gods hang a picture of Hercules in the sky, and someone shouts "That's Phil's Boy!" as this was his dream.

Danny DeVito is the voice of Philoctetes.
