        Aladdin is the hero of the story! He is an orphaned street rat who, to stay alive must steal food from the market where he lives, he also steals for his best friend - Abu, a monkey! Aladdin has a very kind nature, and even if he is starving, he is still willing to give food away to people more in need. Aladdin falls in love with Jasmine when he first sees her in the market. Jafar disguised as an old man, convinces Aladdin to go down to the Cave of Wonders. There he finds the lamp, gets trapped, but when the Genie is released, he tricks him into getting them out of the Cave without using up a wish. His first wish is to turn him into a Prince so that he can marry Jasmine. All appears to be going well, and Jasmine agrees to marry him, after Jafar tries to kill him that is!. Aladdin doesn't feel that he can do anything without the Genie, so he refuses to set him free. Iago steals the lamp however and Jafar becomes the new master of the lamp, and turns Ali, back to Aladdin. Aladdin defeats Jafar by convincing him to wish that he was a genie, forcing him into a lamp! Aladdin uses his last wish to set the Genie free, and the Sultan makes it a law that the Princess can marry whomever she wants, and Jasmine and Aladdin finally marry!

        Jasmine

        Jasmine is the headstrong heroine of the story, she feels like she is a prisoner in the palace, and that Rajah is her only friend. One night she climbs the place walls and ends up in the market, where she meets Aladdin. When she returns to the Palace she is very upset because she thinks Aladdin has been killed. Jasmine hates the law that she HAS to marry, and wants to marry for love. When Prince Ali turns up, she thinks that he is just like the others, but after a magic carpet ride, she soon learns that he is the boy she met in the market and agrees to marry him. However everything goes wrong when Jafar becomes Sultan. Jasmine shows she is a very good actress when she pretends to be madly in love with Jafar. Everything turns out fine in the end when her father, the Sultan makes the law that the Princess can marry whomever she wants, and the pair finally marry!

        Genie

        The Genie is sort of an alternative hero of the story, he's been locked up in a lamp in the Cave of Wonders for 10,000 years. His magic is very powerful and he can turn himself into anything he wants. He is even friends with the magic carpet! He turns Alassin into Prince Ali, and Abu into an elephant. Unfortunately the Genie can't do EVERYTHING, he can't make people fall in love, he can't kill people and he can't bring people back from the dead. After Aladdin defeats Jafar, the Genie is set free by Aladdin and sets off on vacation.

        Jafar

        Memorable Quotes

        Jafar is the evil villian of the story, he is the Grand Visir of the Sultan, but rather than advising he controls, by using his creepy hypnotising staff. He decides that he should marry Jasmine, so that he can become the Sultan. However when Prince Ali turns up, his evil plans go wrong. He tries to kill Ali by drowning him, then when he gets hold of the lamp, he reveals that Ali is really Aladdin. However Jafar gets his come uppance when he turns himself into a genie and gets locked inside a lamp. He always carries the smart alecked parrot Iago on his shoulder.

        Jonathan Freeman is the voice of Jafar.

        Iago

        Iago is the smart alecked side kick to Jafar. He pretends to be a dumb animal but in actual fact he is very clever, and sarcastic too. He is often sent to do a lot of Jafar's dirty work, like stealing the lamp, he hates it when the Sultan stuffs crackers down his neck and he gets his revenge when Jafar takes over, by doing the same thing to him!

        Gilbert Gottfried is the voice of Iago.

        Sultan

        Memorable Quotes

        The Sultan is the ruler of Agrabah and the father of Princess Jasmine. He loves his daughter very much, but is starting to get a bit mad because she refuses to marry any of the suitors that come forward. He is being hypnotized by the crazy visir Jafar, and is convinced to do things he doesn't really want to.

        Abu

        Abu is the cute monkey who is Aladdin's best friend, and is often his partner in crime. He doesn't think much of Jasmine at first, but warms to her eventually. He is a greedy little thing, and he is the cause of Aladdin being stuck in the Cave of Wonders. He manages to keep hold of the lamp as well. He's not too impressed when he is transformed into a huge elephant, but he probably thinks that it's all for a good cause!

        Rajah

        Rajah is Jamine's beautiful pet tiger. He is very protective of her, and can be quite fierce, but he really is a big softie at heart!

        Carpet

        The carpet is a vital part to Aladdin's magic! He is other mode of transport, after Abu the elephant of course! The carpet saves Aladdin on a number of occasions, and on the magical carpet ride is where 'Prince Ali' and Jasmine first hit it off!
