The Eightfold Path consists of the cultivation of ethical living, mental calmness and focus, and the wisdom of insight into true reality.
The four requisites to liberation are: the company of wise dhamma friends; constant access to dharma teachings; contemplation according to the dharma guidance; and put the teachings into practices, live according to the dharma.
Although ultimately we have to do the work ourselves, to develop wisdom we must study and learn from those who have walked the paths. Their words guide us along. And discussion among friends enables us to stay on the path and avoid wandering off the track.
Even though the finger that points to the moon is not the moon, without the finger we will be searching aimlessly among the distracting twinkling stars.
So let's not abandon the precious words of guidance from the Buddha and his noble followers through the ages. Let's study together.
