It was when I discovered the internet that I began to understand the implications of this computor technology. I understood from a student's perspective the miracles of cut-and-paste, text editing, and the wonders of multi-media. What I didn't understand is why they call it cyber-space? All I had was this mental metaphor of the space program and the need to get there. But was there really any there there? The knowledge I discovered was wierd and wonderful. It was like cosmology realizing that there are billions of unexplored sites, like stars shining for me to visit. However, my first steps were like Armstong stepping out onto the theoretical yet untested terre infirma. The zero gravity of space was like the lightening speed and maneuverability of keystokes lightly transporting me toward yet unkown worlds. It was through trial and error that I began to feel trepidation in this unique and perilous realm of cookies, worms and viruses. I would have to boldly go where I would never had the guts to go...CyberSpace.
