When I listened to a song that I liked, I would buy a 45 record. I bought a record player that looked a hairdryer case. It was round and cheesy, but it had built in speakers so it was portable. The recording technology of the sixties led to the 8-track tape player. I began to realize that this technology thing was an evolving field and I marveled as to what might come next. I began to collect 8-track tapes when I was old enough to get my own car. This was cool because you didn't have to reverse or flip the tape-it just switched tracks and kept on playing. This cartridges were bulky and tended to overheat after while. It had invested alot of money in having cool music in the car. Eventually things changed again, and the cassette tape came on the market, which reflected a trend toward smaller and smaller players. Needless to say, the 8 track became obsolete. I had to buy these new cassette tapes because they were smaller. I began to ponder if technology was driven by marketing or was the desire for the latest thing getting out of control.
