| [26] - St. Augustine. This often quoted line states that only God can truly satisfy the human heart. All the idols of man: pleasure, health, social acceptance and money – these do not satisfy him completely. The more he seeks pleasure or to prolong youth or strive to be accepted by peers and society and cling to power and the toys money can buy, the more his heart gets restless. Lord, how long does it take for me to learn
that only you can give me total fulfillment? Outside of you is but provisional
happiness. My pursuit of passing joys always leaves me empty. Let me now
seek you, for you alone can truly make me happy. |
