History It was in the early 90?s. Joe (Joe Ipoh), Mat, Bob and among others were skate friends. We hang out and skateboard a lot at Bazar Bulat and that?s how it all begins. There was this studio back then at Bazar Bulat instead of SYJ Studio, but I don?t remember the name. Joe and Mat have this small band called Invasion. They play anything from speed metal to trash to slow rock heavy metal. I have been following them jamming all the time. Later on, the band has gotten more serious and they turn out to be known as Nothing. The talent and the music that Nothing has been playing inspired me a lot, and give me the nerve to start a band. So one day, I?ve called up some skate friends to form a band and we named it Anything But Nothing (ABN). There?s no meaning of it, just a name which is sound closely to Nothing. I?ve started off jamming with some friends, Rafi (Athotorgh) was the first person I?ve invited, but then he let me down and called me a poseur. So, Anas (an underground friend) help me out and we started jamming with Ed (Psy. Farm) by playing covers from Rotting Christ, Infectious Maggots, Dark Throne, Sex Pistols, etc. Ed seems not interested with us so he left us and Anas call upon his brother Wira to jam with us. But things didn?t work out either? In late 1992, when Nothing vocalist left, Joe (drums) and Mat (1st lead) decided to play with us. So I?ve (2nd lead at the time) invited a skate friend name Bob to be the vocalist. When they join up the band, ABN musical influences have change a lot more to hardcore punk. Since all of us were skateboarders, we claim ourselves as sk8punk (Probably the first sk8punk band in Malaysia). We play a lot of cover song and influences from early Bad Religion, early Beastie Boys, DRI, Youth of Today, M. Threat, Nirvana, Sex Pistols, Exploited, Infectious Maggots and more. In the early 1993, Anas (Bass) left the band to join Nothing. He was being replaced by a sk8 friend also name Anas (Anas Crack). After a couple of month, Anas left us to continue his studies. So, we (me & Bob) invited one of our new sk8 friend name Dio to be part of the band. Somewhere in between that time, the whole band members didn?t agree with the band name. So, Bob, Dio, and me, had a discussion. We came up with a skateboard trick name called Disaster. But I think it was too short, so I came across with this old kids TV game show called Funhouse. When we combined both of it we have Disaster Funhouse. So when this two combines, the meaning is probably different. It?s hard for me to explain, but I guess you all can figure it out. It?s has something to do with our life, be it the environment, the political situation, the scene, even the whole world it selves (senang cerita) an of course skateboarding. Just right after the new band name was given; Bob left us and yet turn out to be a break-dancer. So, I took on his place both playing 2nd lead and the vocals. I?ve wrote Disaster Funhouse very own first song entitled ?Life On The Edge? and we did our first show in the end of year ?93 in a left big chalet house on the beach side of Batu Feringgi, Penang; together with the early Acid Rain, Dish, Chronic Mass, Voice Out, Cramp Mind, Shitworkers, Carburator Dung, etc. After playing several shows in Penang and Ipoh. Mat told me to concentrate more on the vocals instead of playing the 2nd lead. He told me it?s hard for me to express my feeling when playing both at a time. So, here I am now as the vocalist! Somewhere in ?94, an old part time sk8 friend name Mandela (Skinning Pit) invited us to do a demo recording for his music consignment at Yamaha studio in Penang. We recorded 4 songs and only 2 songs have vocal part. So, we decided not to release it. Luckily, Shammir (Life On The Edge / 24 Reason) the guy who runs Under One Roof, As It Is and now Do Not Consumed Records. Invited us to join a compilation and we gave them one of the song from the unreleased demo song called ?Unreasonable?. The titled of compilation was ?Hapuskan ISA? released by View Beyond Records (Czech Republic) and Under One Roof (Malaysia) 2 years after that and consist bands like Hardstance, Hostile Disgrace, The Bollocks, The Un?Normal and 24 Reasons. The other song called ?Confused? appeared on the ?Buddy Holly Network? vol: 2 compilations in ?95 / ?96. Released by Natazar (Insane / Fist Of Fury / OAG) very own old DIY label. In 1996, I move to Kuala Lumpur and involved in other bands called Abstain (now known as Counterplot) and Bastard Society. Also formed Malaysian very first own straight edge band called XikhlasX but didn?t work out. Not forgeting to mention that Dio has decided to get married with his girlfriend Linda. But that doesn?t stop us from playing shows. By this time we probably have 8 own song. In early 97, Knox (Chronic Mass) invited us to join this compilation called ?Visionville HC?. The compilation include bands like Chronic Mass, N.E.T, Project A.K, and Another Side. But when the compilation has been released. It turned out to be out of our expectations. We thought it was supposed to be a DIY release. We were told the compilation to be released on As It Is Records and Tang of Strange Culture Records was only support for the recordings and mastering (kinda loan money from SRC). But when it came out, we saw both of the label names on the released. Strange Culture even controls every single thing on the project. I don?t see Knox to be part of it or As It Is records contribute anything. So now who?s fucking who? Yet, they sell it very expensive. Just 2 bucks cheaper than other major releases. Also, they didn?t let us know about the term and conditions. They even failed to let us know the date of the releases. They weren?t saying anything of selling it at all records store. All I know is one day, I found out the compilation was already sold every where and it?s damn so expensive. So I started to boycott them and let everyone knows not to buy them!! Tang was very upset with me and started to fight each other. So that?s how all the KLHC, CM controversy started. Besides getting paid off from the compilation. I?ve asked Tang to exchange the lump sum into cassette and CD of the compilation. So we sold them by ourselves only for RM6 for tape and RM10 for CD. Its half price from the price they are selling. That?s how the song ?Fuck Strange Culture Records!? existed. Through out the year 1994 ? 1998. We have play with lots of bands in more than 30 shows. In ?98 was our very last show together with Dio. Dio not just left us but also left the scene. He?s been doing greater things with his family. Today he lives with his wife and have 5 kids. Without Dio, the band now remains 3 pieces. Also in 1998, i get married but that doesn't stop me from leaving the band or the scene. Above all the matters, we have reject lots of show between the year 1999-2000. Since the last show and since Dio left us. All we did is just jamming our own song and we did our last jamming in 2000. Without the appearances of Disaster Funhouse, many people in the scene think that we have decided to split. Rumors say that we have RIP and there was another rumor back in Ipoh that Disaster Funhouse was run by another person instead of me. It?s funny coz we never mentioned of getting splitting-up. We never mentioned anything to any friends, zine or in the net. Besides we have many original songs already and it?s a waste if we just leave the band and the song without record anything. But what makes us still together is becoz the love among us, the love and caring from the scene. It?s about 10 years or more now and we never get tired of being part of the DIY scene. Today we have active again and I have invited an old friend name Arwith (XikhlasX members) to fit in the bass. In late 2002, I?ve received a called from a skate friend name Pagil who was also from Ipoh, about a compilation offer. We have contributed 2 songs which isn?t new but songs that we have jamming all along since Dio left. This compilation was known as ?Non-Conformity Vol:1? released by Knot Records.
